Mission Harvests

Harvesting Souls Through Missions

Christianity came to Nigeria in the 15th century through Augustinian and Capuchin Friars from Portugal. The first mission of the Church of England was, though, only established in 1842 in Badagry by Henry Townsend.

Since then, Christianity in Nigeria has grown alongside the population in unimaginable quantum.  This is so particularly when you consider that traditional African worship systems and infact Islam by far predates the coming of Christianity to Nigeria.  Today, Christianity is arguable 40 – 50 percent of the Nigeria population with churches on virtually every street especially with the entire Southern Nigeria and many parts of the North Central Nigeria.

The seed of Christianity in Nigeria was planted with the work of Missionaries.  Today Nigeria sends missionaries to other African countries and to other parts of the world.  Interestingly, these include the United Kingdom, Portugal  and the USA from where Christianity came to Nigeria.

This development underscores the importance of engaging, funding and supporting mission work.  The impact and the reach can only be likened to the Parable of the Fig Tree told by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
